Miscellaneous Award penalty rate multipliers
Multipliers apply to your OWN base hourly rate (find it on the Fair Work pay guide for your classification) — they are not full wage tables.
| Rate type | Full-time / part-time | Casual |
|---|---|---|
| Mon–Fri, 7pm–7am | 120% | 145% |
| Saturday | 120% | 145% |
| Sunday | 150% | 175% |
| Public holiday | 250% | 250% |
| Overtime — first 3 hours | 150% | 150% |
| Overtime — after 3 hours | 200% | 200% |
This is a "safety net" award for employees not covered by any other modern award. Saturday work pays the SAME loading as a Monday–Friday evening shift (120% full-time / 145% casual) — there is no separate, higher Saturday-specific penalty.
Casual loading does NOT stack on top of the public holiday or overtime rates under this award — casuals are paid the same public holiday and overtime rates as full-time/part-time employees. It DOES apply additively to the weekday-evening, Saturday and Sunday rates.
Casual loading interaction
Casual employees under the Miscellaneous Award get a 25% casual loading on their base hourly rate, in exchange for not receiving paid annual leave, personal/carer's leave or notice of termination. That loading generally stacks additively on top of weekend and public holiday penalties — e.g. a Sunday penalty of 150% for full-time staff becomes 175% for casuals under this award.
Check the notes in the table above — some awards (Hospitality, Restaurant) pay casuals the SAME overtime rate as full-time/part-time staff, with no extra casual loading stacked on overtime specifically.
