Frequently asked questions
How do I check if the tax on my payslip is correct?
Enter the gross pay, pay frequency, PAYG tax shown and the same tax-free-threshold and study-loan settings held by payroll. The checker compares your entry with the relevant ATO pay-period schedule.
Why might my payslip tax differ from the ATO estimate?
A difference can arise from a withholding variation, Medicare adjustment, irregular or back payment, an extra pay period, residency settings, rounding or a different TFN declaration. Ask payroll which schedule and declarations they used before treating a difference as an error.
What should an Australian payslip show?
Fair Work says pay slips must include items such as gross and net pay, the pay period, deductions and super information where relevant. This tool checks the entered tax and net-pay arithmetic; it does not audit every legal payslip field.
Does this calculate my final income tax?
No. PAYG withholding is a prepayment collected through payroll. Your final tax assessment uses your total annual income, deductions, offsets, Medicare position and other circumstances.
Tax Accuracy & Sources
Checks standard resident pay-period withholding and the arithmetic from the fields entered. It does not audit award rates, hours, allowances, super, salary packaging, payroll variations or every mandatory payslip field.
