Withholding projection
Main-job PAYG projection$16,172
Second-job PAYG projection$3,588
Estimated final tax, Medicare and HELP$22,520
Projected withholding shortfall$2,760
The modelled shortfall is about $53 a week. You can ask a payer to withhold extra; an ATO-approved variation may be needed in some cases.
PAYG is projected as 52 even weekly payments. Irregular hours, deductions, offsets, salary sacrifice and employer variations can change the actual year-end result.

Frequently asked questions
Do I pay more tax because I have a second job?
Australia does not impose a separate second-job tax rate. Both jobs contribute to your annual taxable income, so the extra income is effectively taxed at the marginal rates reached by your combined income.
Should I claim the tax-free threshold on my second job?
The ATO generally says to claim the threshold from only one payer, usually the higher-paying job, when combined income will exceed $18,200. It allows multiple claims where total income from all payers is expected to remain below the threshold.
Why can two jobs cause a tax bill?
Each payroll normally withholds using only the pay it sees. If both jobs apply the tax-free threshold, or if combined income changes Medicare, HELP or marginal-rate outcomes, total withholding can be lower than the final annual liability.
Can I ask my employer to withhold extra tax?
You can ask a payer to withhold an additional amount. If you want less than the standard schedule amount withheld, an ATO-approved withholding variation may be required.
