FAQ
How is this different from the sole-trader tax calculator?
The sole-trader tax calculator computes your annual tax on a given net profit. This Action Plan goes a level higher — it ranks the decisions you should make across the year (when to register for GST, whether to vary your PAYG instalment, when to incorporate, what super to contribute) by deadline urgency × dollar impact. Use this hub first to decide WHAT to do; use the individual calculators to model HOW MUCH.
What is the urgency multiplier?
Each lever has a deadline. Levers with ≤14 days to deadline get 3.0× weight, 15-30 days get 2.0×, 31-90 days get 1.5×, anything further or with no fixed deadline gets 1.0×. The ranker sorts by (dollar impact × urgency multiplier), so a smaller-dollar lever due in a week can outrank a bigger-dollar lever due in 3 months. The chip colour on each card reflects the same scale (red ≤14d, amber ≤30d, slate >30d, grey for ongoing).
Why does the GST lever sometimes show as a red warning?
If your gross revenue is over $75,000 and you're not GST-registered, ATO can claim 1/11th of every dollar above the threshold. We surface this as a warning (negative dollar impact) and link to the GST registration threshold reference page. The 21-day clock starts when you cross the threshold, not when ATO contacts you. If you're between $60k and $75k, we surface it as an educational lever, not a warning.
Why isn't my BAS deadline showing the right date?
We compute the next BAS quarter from today's date. Q1 (Jul-Sep) is due 28 Oct, Q2 (Oct-Dec) due 28 Feb, Q3 (Jan-Mar) due 28 Apr, Q4 (Apr-Jun) due 28 Jul. Tax agents may be granted a ~4-week extension; we show the standard ATO date. Confirm your specific date with /bas-and-payg-due-dates-australia/.
