Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't South Australia offer stamp duty exemptions for first home buyers?
South Australia is one of the few states that does not provide a specific first home buyer stamp duty exemption or concession. Instead, the state focuses its support through the $15,000 First Home Owner Grant for new homes. All buyers, including first home buyers, pay the standard stamp duty rates.
Can I get the SA FHOG for a house and land package?
Yes, the $15,000 FHOG in South Australia applies to house and land packages, newly built homes, and homes built by owner-builders, provided the total value does not exceed $650,000. The grant does not apply to established (existing) homes.
Are there any other concessions available in South Australia for buyers?
While there is no FHB-specific stamp duty concession, South Australia offers an off-the-plan concession that can reduce stamp duty for apartment purchases. Additionally, the federal First Home Super Saver Scheme (FHSS) and First Home Guarantee are available to SA buyers.
