Comparison method

Your repayment habit changes what “cheap” means

Moneysmart recommends starting with how you will repay. If you carry a balance, a lower purchase rate can outweigh a modest fee. If you always pay in full, purchase interest should not drive the ranking, so the comparison starts with identifiable core fees and then interest-free days.

Optional statement, additional-cardholder and transaction fees are excluded from the headline estimate. Conditional fee waivers are flagged but not assumed. Open the provider dossier to inspect the broader fee, feature, limit and eligibility record before applying.

Credit card comparison FAQs

What credit card data does this comparison use?
It uses public Consumer Data Right product-reference records published by Australian providers. It does not connect to a bank account or access customer, balance, transaction, identity or credit-report data.
How is estimated annual cost calculated?
If you carry a balance, the estimate is your entered average balance multiplied by the published purchase rate, plus identifiable fixed AUD account or membership fees annualised from their published frequency. If you pay in full, only those core fees are counted. It is a comparison estimate, not a statement forecast.
Why are some CDR credit cards not shown?
The comparison excludes explicit business cards, tailored products, cards without a usable positive purchase rate, and cards whose core annual fee cannot be identified. Missing fee data is not treated as a zero fee. Your filters can exclude further products.
Does a rewards flag mean the rewards are valuable?
No. The flag means the provider published a rewards, points or cashback feature. The comparison does not invent a dollar value because earn rates, redemption value, caps, expiry and qualifying-spend rules vary. Check the current provider terms.
Do interest-free days apply automatically?
Usually not. Interest-free days generally depend on paying the required closing balance by the due date, and they generally do not apply to cash advances. The result shows the published maximum period; confirm the conditions with the provider.
