Frequently asked questions

What does Family Tax Benefit balancing mean?
After the financial year, Services Australia compares the income estimate used for your payments with confirmed actual income and other family-assistance details. The outcome may be a top-up, a debt or no change.
Does this calculator include the FTB supplements?
Yes. It models the 2025-26 Part A supplement per eligible child and the income-tested Part B supplement, then prorates them using the eligible-day input. Formal eligibility and debt offsets can change the amount paid.
Why can child support change the balancing result?
FTB Part A applies a maintenance income test. Services Australia may use assessed or actually collected child support depending on the collection arrangement and can also apply a Maintenance Income Credit.
Can Services Australia take a top-up for another debt?
Yes. Services Australia says FTB top-ups and supplements may be offset against existing Centrelink or ATO debts before any balance is paid.
