Before you amend

Identify the exact label that is wrong and retain the source document or calculation supporting the corrected amount. If pre-fill information is wrong, contact the provider where appropriate.

02

Online amendment steps

  1. Sign in to myGov and open the linked ATO service.
  2. Open the relevant income-year tax return after it is processed.
  3. Choose the amendment option and change only the affected labels.
  4. Review the declaration, submit and save the receipt.
  5. Read the amended notice of assessment when issued.

What happens after submission

An amendment can increase a refund, reduce an amount owing, create a new amount owing or leave the result unchanged. Interest and payment timing depend on the account outcome.
