Frequently asked questions

What can be included in final pay?
Final pay can include outstanding wages, annual leave, leave loading, payment in lieu of notice, redundancy pay and long service leave where applicable. The applicable award, agreement and state rules still need checking.
Is unused sick leave paid out?
Ordinary sick and carer’s leave is generally not paid out when employment ends, unless a contract, agreement or other rule provides otherwise.
Is redundancy pay all tax free?
No. A genuine redundancy payment is tax free only up to the annual ATO formula. Eligible excess is generally treated as an employment termination payment.
Is the withholding estimate my final tax?
No. It estimates payroll withholding using the selected PAYG, Schedule 7 and ETP rules. Your final assessment depends on the full income year.
