The Age Pension is taxable income, and so is the pension supplement basic amount — the former GST supplement, $30.10/fn — because it is taxed the same way as the pension it is paid with. The rest of the pension supplement is the tax exempt pension supplement, and the Energy Supplement is exempt as well. Because a means test reduces your pension, the split above shares that reduction across both halves in proportion — Services Australia works out the exact taxable figure on your payment summary. SAPTO and the tax-free threshold mean a full-rate pensioner with no other income still pays no tax. How Centrelink payments are taxed.

Your pension is limited by the assets test. Reducing assessable assets by $267,000 would bring that test back to its full-rate threshold; the income test could still apply.

FAQ
How much Age Pension will I get with $600,000 in super?
With $600,000 in financial assets (super, savings, shares) and no other assets or income, a single homeowner would get $399.90 per fortnight ($10,397 per year) — a part Age Pension, limited by the assets test. A homeowner couple with the same combined financial assets would get $1,507.40 per fortnight combined ($39,192 per year) — a part Age Pension, limited by the assets test. These figures exclude the family home, car, contents and any other income — add those in the calculator below for your own numbers.
Does having $600k in super stop me getting the Age Pension?
Not on its own. The Age Pension assets test full-rate threshold for a single homeowner is $333,000 and the cut-off is $733,500 (higher again for non-homeowners and couples). $600,000 in financial assets alone is within the single homeowner range, though the income test (deeming) can still reduce the payment first.
Is this based on total assets or just super?
This page treats $600,000 as your total financial assets — the sum of superannuation in pension phase, bank accounts, shares and managed funds, since that is what most people mean by "how much in super". It does not add a home, car, contents or other assets: enter those separately in the calculator below for your full assets-test position.
Single vs couple — does $600k go further?
The couple figure above assumes $600,000 is your COMBINED financial assets as a couple, both eligible for the Age Pension. Couples get a higher combined assets-test threshold ($499,000 vs $333,000 for singles) but a lower maximum rate per person, so the outcome depends on where $600,000 sits relative to each threshold.
