Frequently asked questions

How old do you need to be for Austudy?
Austudy is generally for full-time students and Australian Apprentices aged 25 or older. Younger students usually check Youth Allowance.
How does the Austudy income test work?
The personal income free area is applied each fortnight. Income Bank credits can offset employment income above the free area before the 50% and 60% taper bands reduce payment.
Is this an official Centrelink decision?
No. Services Australia also checks study load, course, residence, partner income, assets and other eligibility rules.
